Dear Lee & family,During the 1972-1973 school year at Jefferson School in Morton, Illinois, Wylma was my 6th grade teacher and though I was a daily challenge with my boyish buffoonery, she never lost her patience with me. I believe I was one of the first students that she placed under the 5 blue chip rule. She gave me 5 blue chips and with each classroom disruption I caused she took away one blue chip. She told me that I never wanted to find out what happens when I lost my last chip. Well, I never did lose that last chip, but I can honestly say it wasn't so much the fear of the consequences as it was the thought of disappointing a woman who obviously cared so much for me. One of the very special moments in my life was when I was teaching an adult Sunday School class at Grace Mennonite that Mrs. Hinkley attended and after class she told me how pleasantly surprised she was on how I turned out. I just hope she knew that she was one of God's means of accomplishing that result and that her impact on my life can be multiplied by all the students she taught. So at age 48, with a wife and 5 children and as a federal prosecutor, I am what I am in part because of her devotion to her students. The saddness I have now is because of the love she had then. Lives touched and blessed are Wylma Hinkley's lasting legacy. May the memory of her life and love here on earth be your comfort and the reality of her presence with Christ in heaven awaiting your coming be your hope.##imported-begin##Kirk Schoenbein##imported-end##
We had the honor of knowing Wylma in the early 80's when she and her husband owned Hidden Treasure Bookstore in Washington. Both Lee and Wylma were always very generous. I was a member of the Precious Moments club then and she let our club meet in their store. I also remember them opening their home in Morton to our club. Our thoughts and prayers are with your family at this time. Jerry & Dawn PurdueWashington, Illinois##imported-begin##Jerry and Dawn Purdue##imported-end##
Remembering Wylma fondly as I was a customer at Hidden Treasure Christian Bookstore and then one of her employees there. I admired her dedication to serving the Lord by bringing this wonderful store and the Good News to Washington, Illinois. May God bless you, Lee, and your son as you travel along life's journey with a void. Remember that you are in my prayers. Thank you so much for posting the obituary in the Peoria Journal Star. Good bye wonderful Wylma. I will see you again!! Praise God!! Betsy Smith, Washington, Illinois.##imported-begin##Betsy Smith##imported-end##
