We offer our sympathy to Ann and Dick's larger family.
He was not an ordinary guy. He was extraordinary.
He gave his time and talent to teach people to fly radio control airplanes, fix cars, machine parts, and provide sage advice.
He was a master machinist. Dick had a wonderful sense of humor. In fact when I first tried to fly my first Radio Controlled plane, it was so heavy that it ran the full length of the runway before it got off the ground. Dick laughed out loud and suggested new wings- the flapping type-might help. HA. He and Leon Kuszik helped make some changes on this plane. Dick named it the "lead sled" as it was heavy and silver in color. With Dick's humor and help I became a good pilot and flight instructor at the club.
As President of CCRCC Dick did much to advance model aviation. He was a great instructor, and event manager. Dick worked with me to teach my wife Sue how to fly and welcomed her into the flying club (Central Connecticut Radio Control Club) in 1980.
Dick provided very practical advice to everyone on home heating systems, cars, and anything mechanical. He could take a pile of scrap steel and make a great mechanical device. His '58 Corvette is a masterpiece. That skill seems long-lost in this nation, but those of us that spent time with Dick carry some of that forward. In fact the tools, jigs, and fixtures Dick made for me are used every week in my shop.
Most importantly Dick was an extraordinary human being and friend to many. He stood up to loud non-thinking people, and quietly helped those who needed assistance. For 20 years he had the courage to positively fight his long-term illness and still tell jokes every day. He loved Ann and would want us to all rally around her.
There are some big footprints where Dick stood.
