Joyce I. Knapp's Obituary
Joyce Knapp, 84, of Mount Dora, Florida, formerly of the Washington, D.C. area, passed away peacefully on January 23, 2026 in the company of her loving daughters.
Born in Coaldale, Pennsylvania, Joyce was the daughter of Richard and Florence Kitt. She was the cherished sister of Richard Kitt, William Kitt, and Florence (Kitt) Prehoda.
After graduating high school, Joyce embarked on an adventure to Washington, D.C., joining her siblings and beginning a new chapter of her life. It was there she met her husband, Gene Knapp.
Joyce is survived by her devoted daughters, Dawn Gibson and Debra Miller; son-in-law Michael Gibson; adored grandchildren Riley Miller and Grey Gibson; and her cherished companion Cuddles, who brought endless joy to her days as well as her sister, Florence.
Joyce is preceded in passing by her parents, and her two brothers, Richard and William.
Throughout her life, Joyce exemplified determination and resilience. While raising her children, she pursued higher education, earning her bachelor's degree from the University of Maryland. Her career in the technology field showcased her sharp intellect and pioneering spirit during an era when women were underrepresented in the field.
In 2007, Joyce retired and relocated to Florida to embrace the sunshine and pursue her passions. She was an avid bridge player who took great pride in earning master points, a beginner golfer, and an enthusiastic traveler with a particular fondness for visiting lighthouses around the world.
A devoted friend, Joyce was always ready to offer support and be there for those she cared about, bringing her characteristic strength and loyalty to every relationship. Those who knew her were consistently impressed by her remarkable intellect, extensive knowledge of investing and the stock market, and her endlessly curious nature. Strong-willed, fiercely independent, and remarkably intelligent, Joyce lived life on her own terms. Her family and friends will forever treasure her memory.
A celebration of life will take place on Saturday February 28, 2026 at 11:00am at the Waterman Village Chapel.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Joyce's memory to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, charities that were dear to her heart.
