Joyce was a colleague of mine and a dear friend from the time I moved to Maryland in 1984 to work at Vitro Corporation where we met. She was very generous and welcoming--often arranging for lobsters to be flown down from Maine and sharing her Bordeaux wines at gatherings at her home to our collective delight.
Professionally speaking, Joyce was steadfast and resolute as our database administrator and played a pivotal role in the company’s information technology upgrade. In between work, we traveled to Puerto Rico for our friend Chuck’s wedding, and when I left to return to Seattle, she came to mine.
Over the years we would get together whenever I returned East to visit my family and play bridge--even if it was two-handed. I’ll miss those visits and calls but know she will always be bidding up a storm in Grand Slam style.
