Charlene Hopkins' Obituary
Charlene Allegre Isom Hopkins, 77, of Frostproof, Fl, passed away peacefully December 9, 2010 with her family at her side. She died unexpectedly at Florida Hospital Heartland Division, Sebring, FL. She was born July 18, 1933 in Greenwood, IN to Vennis and Wilma Isom. She grew up in Greenwood and graduated from Greenwood Community High School. She was a graduate of Indiana Central College (now the University of Indianapolis), with a degree in Elementary Education and later received a Master of Arts in Education from Ball State University. In 1956 she married Edward C. Hopkins of Connersville and they moved to Oxford, OH where he was attending Miami University and she taught at the Sommerville, OH, elementary school. They moved to Connersville in 1958, where their two children were born. She taught in the Connersville Public Schools as an elementary teacher from 1958 through 1964. In 1964 they moved to Greenwood, where they both taught elementary education. She taught in the Greenwood Public Schools for 26 years at the V. O. Isom Central Elementary School, named in honor of her father, a Greenwood educator. She retired in 1990. They wintered in Frostproof from 1991 until 1995, when they moved to Lilly Lake at Frostproof.
