William Ray Hughes' Obituary
William Ray “Billy” Hughes, 61, of Oxford, passed away peacefully at his home surrounded by his loving family, Saturday, August 1, 2020. Mr. Hughes was born March 20, 1959 in Winter Haven, FL to Janet (Manning) Hughes and Jimmy Ray Hughes. Billy was the retired owner of Utility Systems Construction and after his retirement he assisted his son’s with Hughes Brother’s Construction in Wildwood. He was of the Baptist faith and moved to Oxford in 1993 from Kissimmee. Billy was an avid saltwater fisherman and hunter who loved to share his outdoor passion with friends and family. He enjoyed his second home in Crystal River where he loved to have his family with him and could easily get into the Gulf to go fishing. Survivors include his loving wife of 39 years, Marie; sons, Justin Ray Hughes (Maddie) of Wildwood and Chad Everett Hughes (Angela) of Wildwood; father, Jimmy Ray Hughes of Davenport; siblings, Lanese Mays (Richard) of Oxford, Bobby Hughes (Amanda) of Davenport and Angel Hughes (Marc Webber) of CO; close “brother-like” cousins, Jerry Lanier (Kimmy) of St. Cloud and Jeff Lanier (Renee) of St. Cloud; grandchildren, who knew him as “Pop-Pop”, Hayden, Hudson, Ashton, Kameron and Jaxson. Graveside funeral services will be 10:00 A.M., Friday, August 7, 2020 in Nichols Cemetery, Oxford. Please observe social distancing during the service in order to keep yourself and others safe. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Mayo Clinic, designating Cancer Research, in Jacksonville, FL, philanthropy.mayoclinic.org.
