Thomas S Smith's Obituary
Thomas Simms Smith, 87 years of age was born in 1921 in Oxford, Fl. to Chloe Simms Smith and Thomas Edward Smith. He departed this earth Monday, May 4th. A lifelong resident of Oxford, he graduated from Wildwood High School in 1940. He later met and married Lorene Baker of Ellenton, Ga. He joined the Coast Guard serving in N.Y. and Key West during WWII. He worked at US. Concrete Pipe and was later an inspector for the state of Fl. He was most proud of being a 4th generation Florida Cracker who was a farmer and cattleman at heart, Tom was a lifelong member of First Baptist Church of Oxford. He is survived by his sweetheart of 67 yrs. Lorene Baker Smith, one daughter Deardre (Bob) Smith Russ, one son Roger D. (Chris) Smith, three grandsons: Brent (Amy) Russ, Brad (Jennifer) Russ, Dan Smith, two great granddaughters: Alma Gail and Chloe Dee Russ, two great grandsons: Drew Thomas and Cameron Matthew Russ. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00 p.m. Wednesday, May 6, 2009 at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Chapel. Funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 7, 2009 at First Baptist Church of Oxford with interment to follow at Pine Level Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Florida Baptist Children's Home 1015 Sikes Blvd. Lakeland, Fl 33815
