Thomas Richard Barrett's Obituary
Thomas Richard Barrett, 83, of The Villages, FL, passed away Friday, July 11, 2025. He was born May 6, 1942, in Pittsburgh, PA, to James H. and Dorothy E. (Johnson) Barrett.
He moved to Florida from Bella Vista, Arkansas, in 2012, but had been a Florida resident since 1965, when he relocated from Pittsburgh to attend the University of Tampa and major in Business.
He worked for GTE for 25 years and was an award-winning salesman before buying his own watersports recreation rental equipment business on John’s Pass in Madeira Beach, FL. He ran this successful business for 15 years before ultimately retiring to The Villages.
He enjoyed scuba diving, spear fishing, golf, boat racing, and card games. "He lived life out loud, always talking, always friendly, and always ready with a story from his long list of adventures. He took pride in being a competitor, never turning away from a challenge, and somehow walking away from more close calls than most could imagine. Business was a battleground he knew well, and he approached it like everything else: with drive, focus, and a refusal to settle for second place.
Jeremiah 23:11 -12
For I know the plans I have for you, " declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you."
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 15 years, Marilyn Barrett.
He is survived by his daughters: Brittany (Susan Barrett) Eichorst Fiory and Heather (Chuck) Shuler; and brother, Jon H. Barrett.
Joshua 1:9 * “Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.”*
There will be a private Celebration of Life Memorial Service held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Richard Barrett’s honor to the Shriners Children’s Hospital Donate to Shriners Children's.
