Steven M. "Steve" Harden's Obituary
Steven “Steve” Harden, born February 26, 1962, in Sentinel, Oklahoma, went to be with the Lord on January 13, 2026, at the age of 63.
Steve was the son of Sam and Earline Harden, both of whom preceded him in death. Growing up in a military family, he lived in several places during his father’s Air Force service. After Sam’s retirement, the family settled in Monteverde, Florida, in 1970. Steve graduated from Clermont High School in 1980.
Later that same year, Steve lost his eyesight due to an accident — a life-changing moment that revealed his extraordinary resilience, humor, and faith. He never allowed blindness to define him. Instead, he became known for his quick wit, his goofy jokes, his steady kindness, and his habit of offering everyone he talked to a piece of gum or a mint — a small gesture that always made people feel seen and welcomed.
In 1991, Steve made Oxford, Florida, his home, building lasting relationships within the church and the community. He lived with his parents until their passing and remained independent for many years before moving to Carriage House in 2022, where he was lovingly supported by staff and friends.
Steve truly loved God and loved people, and that love shaped every relationship he formed. He was cherished by his church family at Oxford Assembly of God, his extended family at Carriage House, and many friends who were drawn to his gentle spirit and unmistakable laugh.
Steve is survived by his brother Curtis Harden, his sister Phyllis (Franklin) Burnett, his nephew and nieces, and a wide circle of people who were blessed by his life.
A viewing will be held on Thursday, January 22, 2026, at 12:00 p.m., followed by a service at 1:00 p.m. at Oxford Assembly of God, located at 12114 US 301, Oxford, FL. Interment will follow at Pine Level Cemetery.
Steve’s family extends heartfelt thanks to the caregivers, friends, and church members who supported and loved him so well.
