Sarah Elizabeth Morrison's Obituary
Sarah Elizabeth (Johnson) Morrison was born in May 27, 1926, to Suzie Ethel and Joseph H. Johnson, Sr. in Plant City, Florida. The family moved to Wildwood, Florida, shortly thereafter. Mrs. Morrison was a lifelong resident of Wildwood. She worked many years as a bookkeeper / secretary. She served 10 years as the City of Wildwood City Clerk. She was a great mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She served as an example of a strong, determined woman to several generations. Mrs. Morrison was a graduate of Wildwood High School, Class of 1944 and attended Massey Business College in Jacksonville, Florida, for a short time. After leaving the workforce, she worked as a school volunteer in Wildwood. On May 4, 1990, at the age of 65, Sarah realized one of her lifelong dreams by receiving her Associate of Science degree from Lake-Sumter Community College. She was, at that time, the oldest person to have graduated from this institution. When asked by a relative “Why are you going to school at this late age?”, she simply answered, “Because I have always wanted a degree, and I’m going to get one.” …and she did. She went to work at Leesburg Regional Medical Center as an esteemed volunteer. She also worked at Wal-Mart until 1998. She was a past Worthy Matron and member in good standing with the Wildwood Chapter of the Eastern Star.
Sarah moved to Brandon, Mississippi, in 2002. During that time she traveled many places, and another of her lifelong dreams was realized when she visited Los Angeles, California, where she toured Warner Brothers studio, walked on the Venice Beach Boardwalk, and strutted down Rodeo Drive, flirting with and winning the hearts of every male flight attendant between Jackson, Mississippi and Los Angeles. Her second favorite trip was to New Orleans, Louisiana, to the ABC Fun in the Sun event, where she was photographed with soap star and ET correspondent, Cameron Matheison….and she flirted with him, too.
On June 3, 2017, Sarah Elizabeth (Johnson) Morrison exited this world quietly and entered into the Gates of Heaven with a song and a shout! She was 91 years old. She was met by her husband, Oscar L. Morrison; daughter, Vicky Dale Acken; brother, J. H. Johnson, Jr.; sisters, Martha Hemingway and Betty Jo Leneave and a host of other family members, including 3 infant great grandchildren. She leaves behind many happy memories with those who loved her; Sister, Ann Collins; daughter, Rebecca K (Mike) Hampton; grandson Rex R. (Carey) Robinson, IV; granddaughters Roslyn Rebecca (Bradley) Williams, Amie Pewitt, and Anna Morris (Paco); close family friend Scott Roberts; and great grandchildren Chandler, Jodie, Ian, Zoe, Cole, Jenna, Bradley, and Cassidy. The family is grateful for the love and care she received from the staff of Brandon Court Nursing Home and PAX Hospice.
In accordance with her wished, a private graveside service was held on Wednesday, June 7 with her daughter and son-in-law in attendance. In Lieu of flowers, friends and family may make a donation to the Brandon Court Nursing Home Country Store, 100 Burham Road, Brandon, MS, 39042.
