Robert Gibson Keim, Ph.D, 77, passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 in Leesburg, Florida. He was born May 13, 1936 to Herbert Elford and Mary Katherine , nee Fairbanks, Keim, both deceased, in Cleveland, Ohio He graduated from Westlake, Ohio public school in 1954 where he won varsity letters in Football, Basketball and Baseball.
Dr. Keim was a graduate of Ohio University, BSC, John Carroll University, MA in Guidance and Counseling, 1969, and Case Western Reserve University, Doctorate in Philosophy, Special Education Leadership in 1979
Dr. Keim retired from Cleveland Public School System where he was a teacher, Adult counselor, Business Coordinator, Work study Coordinator/Supervisor and site Administrator, Vocational Opportunity Center for Handicapped High School Students.
He was a coordinator for Adult Workshops for persons working with adults who had mental handicaps, Case Western Reserve's School of Medicine and Director of Programs for the Boys and Girls Club of Cleveland before retiring to Vero Beach, Florida in 1996.
"Dr Bob was a past president of the Association for Retarded Citizens, past president of the Council for Exceptional Children, State Treasurer for the Exceptional Children, founder and past president of the Division of Careen Education, Cec, and Board member of the Multiple Sclerosis Society of Northern Ohio. He was active at the grass roots level in Democratic politics in Lakewood and Cleveland’s West Side. He also was a trustee of the Edgewater Home Owners Association.
After moving to Vero Beach, Florida in 1996, Dr. KEIM joined the Boys & Girls clubs of St. Lucie County and moved on to help start the Boys and Girls Club of Vero Beach in Indian River County where he was on the board till 2008 and in 2010 moved to The Villages, Fl.
Dr. Kiem was married to Patricia Anne Gegan- Keim in 1992. Dr. Keim is survived by Robert & Jackie Keim, Mary Jo (Keim) & Tim Barth, Neil Keim, John & Kerry Keim, and Christopher & Krista Keim and step-daughter Denise & Dave Lindow, and 25 Grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. His family of brother Harry E. And wife Judith Keim of Milledgeville Georgia and brother, Dave and Kathy Keim of Jacksonville, Florida also survive. Contributions in Dr. Keim's memory can be made to the Boys & Girls Clubs of Vero Beach or Cleveland and or ARC (Association for Retired Citizens). A memorial service will be Saturday, May 24, 2014 at 1:00 PM at St. Angela Merici, 20970 Lorain Avenue, Fairview Park, Ohio.
