It was a shock to learn of Doane's passing. He was a wonderful man. We became friends in Miami as new Delta pilots at a developement called Point Royale. None of us had much money but we all had access to VA loans. We would play tennis and help each other with house projects. Dear Debbie,We were surprised and saddened when we heard the news that Doane had been promoted to heaven. We know that even a strong Christian has a "hole" in their heart when someone they have loved so long and so dearly goes on to heaven. Debbie, you and your family are in our prayers! As you know, Doane was one of the "Good Guys." We met in Miami. I really got to know him when we were both commuting to Atlanta for our last 15 years or so. We had a lot of great conversations. He was a really good human being.The last time I saw him was about a year after he retired. It was in Atlanta by the gas station adjacent to the old Hojos. He had driven to Atlanta to see a Georgia Tech football game. I ask him if he still sees any of the "Guys." His response was that our chance meeting at the gas station was the first time he saw and talked to a Delta Pilot since he retired. I wondered if that would be true in my case as well.Well, it was. You see these "Guys" on what seems a never ending basis for over 30 years, then one day you never see them or hear from them again. Kind of sad!
