Robert Vernon Capps' Obituary
Robert Vernon Capps was born in Greenfield, TN to Hulon Ray and Nova Lynn Capps on May 22, 1944, and went unexpectedly to Glory on Friday November 11, 2016 at Lakeland Regional Medical Center.
“Bob” knew a little about everything and never met a stranger. He held various jobs including farming, trucking, mechanical work, and was great at dispensing advice to everyone, especially if it involved saving money. You didn’t even want to get him started on politics. He and Rachel had several years of travel as a Workamper with extended assignments in New Hampshire, New Jersey, and Mississippi and many other short term places thanks to a year working for Carson & Barnes Circus. In his retirement years he continued to dispense wisdom and humor to those around him.
He was an active member of Sebring Parkway Church of Christ where he served in the clothing ministry. He loved to sing and travel to other churches in the fellowship for area sing-alongs. He was widely loved and will be missed.
He is survived by his wife, Rachel; his brother Ray Capps (Margaret Ann) and sister Theresa Capps from Greenfield, TN; son Steve Capps (Carol) from Mocksville, NC; daughter Alisa Wike (Tracy) from Baker, MT; stepchildren Denise Huff (Ken) from Spartanburg, SC; Celeste Hudson from Mt. Airy, MD; Darren Hughes (Sarah) from Atlanta, GA; 12 grandchildren, a great-grandchild and a niece.
A service to celebrate his life was held on November 14 at the Sebring Parkway Church of Christ, officiated by Kevin Patterson. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the church.
