Robert S Anderson's Obituary
Robert Strange Anderson, 82, The Villages, passed away peacefully on Monday, May 2, 2016. Bob was born in Cincinnati, Ohio August 20, 1933, and grew up in Glen Rock, NJ where he met and married Connie, his wife of 58 years. He was graduated from Duke University (BS/Economics, 1955) and was commissioned 2 LT. in the United States Air Force. He served 6 years attaining the rank of Captain. Upon leaving the service, he worked for several Fortune 500 companies in the defense and electronics industries, (Chance-Vought, Dallas; Sperry-Microwave, Clearwater; Milgo Electronics, Miami). Bob left the corporate world to own and operate a Sir Speedy Printing Center in Miami. Upon sale of that business, he became President of Gamma Graphics., the master licensee of Sir Speedy Florida. He traveled throughout the state planting printing centers in established and growth areas. Bob spent several years with BCT(Business Cards Tomorrow), in Ft. Lauderdale, and worked as senior vice pres. of Comprehensive Business Services in Carlsbad, CA.
Upon relocating to Florida, Bob enjoyed working with the Economic Development Council of S. Florida, fishing, and lobstering in the Keys, and the Fl. Gators. Bob and Connie retired to The Villages in 2004, where Bob found great enjoyment playing pickleball with his great group of friends. Bob continued to work while “retired” and served for a number of years as an arbitrator for FINRA(Financial Industries Regulatory Authority). In addition, Bob enjoyed serving with SCORE (Service Corp. of Retired Executives) and had tours of duty in Panama, Bulgaria and Russia. Bob served on the Board of the Humane Society SPCA/Sumter county, fundraising and promoting special events. He especially enjoyed volunteering at both Sumter Correctional Facility and Coleman Federal Prison, helping pre-release prisoners with budgeting and job application skills.
Bob is survived by his devoted wife, Connie, his 3 children; Jennifer McMurray and her husband Bruce, Julie Anderson Grennan and son Sam Anderson and his wife LeighAnn; . In addition to his brother Sam G. Anderson and his wife, Shirley, he leaves his 6 grandchildren, Rob McMurray and his wife, Mary, Ashley McCormack and her husband Ethan, Michelle McMurray, Casey Grennan, Samuel M. Anderson, Jacqueline Anderson, and numerous other family and friends.
Bob trusted Jesus to be his savior throughout his life and shared his love of God through music, service in his church and in his family life.
He will always be remembered as a loving husband, father, brother, grandparent and friend.
Memorial services will be held Friday, May 13, 2016 at 11:00 AM at Faith Presbyterian Church, Oxford with inurnment to follow at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society/SPCA of Sumter County, http://hsspca.org.
