Richard L. Morin
January 26, 1947 – April 28, 2016
Richard died in Summerfield, FL, with his family at his side after a courageous battle with cancer. Richard was born January 26, 1947 in Woonsocket, RI, and lived most of his life in Northern RI before permanently moving to Summerfield, FL, in March 2014. Richard proudly served his country during the Vietnam War as a 2nd Class Petty Officer responsible for all budgetary activities of the Amphibious Construction Battalion Two and was commended as having one of the highest grades ever bestowed upon a Supply Department during an Annual Supply Inspection by the governing Naval District. He graduated from Bryant College with a Bachelor of Science Degree in 1967 with his Masters in Business Administration Degree in 1985. Richard worked for Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island for 38 years retiring in 2009 as Assistant Vice President – Financial Operations. He also was an Adjunct Professor teaching Accounting at both the Community College of Rhode Island and Johnson & Wales While living in RI, Richard was active with the St. John the Evangelist Church CCD program and the Slatersville Boy Scouts Troop 1139. He was also the founding Chairman of the North Smithfield Crime Stoppers, Inc. During his retirement years in RI, Richard became an active member of the Society of St. Vincent DePaul Mapleville Conference and served as Treasurer for the Providence Diocesan Council of St. Vincent dePaul. After moving to FL in 2014, Richard continued his service to the underprivileged as the volunteer Chief Financial Officer and subsequently as a Board member of the National Society of St. Vincent dePaul located in St. Louis, Missouri. Service to others was the driving force behind Richard.
In addition to the above, Richard will be remembered for his construction and carpentry skills and his love for Corvettes and Harley Davidson motorcycles.
Richard was a loving husband and father. He leaves his wife, Pauline Cichon Morin; his son, Christopher Morin of Glocester, RI; daughter, Stephanie Morin of West New York, NJ; stepdaughter, Deanna Cichon Zimkus and her husband Jason of Southington, CT; and stepdaughter Alyssa Bellino and her husband Anthony of Shrewsbury, MA. He is predeceased by his father, Andre, and mother Ruth (Raiche) Morin.
