Richard “Uncle Dick” Merriman was a blessing to our family. He was married to my Dad’s sister, Rose, just shy of 32 years. In that time we had many fun fellowships together. My parents, Uncle Dick & Aunt Rose along with my Dad’s other sister, Mary Ann and her husband Bobby would try as often as they could, to get together...usually at Cracker Barrel. Of course, anyone else in the family was certainly welcome. I posted a photo below of one of those times.
When I reflect on Uncle Dick, I think of how much information he knew! Today we can just google things, but he knew a little bit about everything! Yes, we too enjoyed his northern accent (usually we are the ones looked at for our southern accent). My husband and I still call “corn”...”con” in loving remembrance of Uncle Dick. One of the best things I remember, was his easy going way. One time while he and Aunt Rose were visiting us with their Fifth Wheel trailer, he left the driver side door open as he was backing up. As he had his head looking back to watch, he didn’t see the pine tree right next to him and the door was now parallel to the cab but facing the other direction! He wasn’t concerned at all and said, “Oh, I can fix that!” May we all have that great attitude. Looking forward to seeing him again when we join him in heaven! (Uncle Dick...please hug my parents for me !) ❤️
