Don Walker
Dick was my barber and fellow church usher in Madison for many years. When he and wife Carol were looking at the Villages Fl., they rented a place next door to Nancy and I. They quickly became friends with the neighborhood.
Dick was quick to get to know everyone. He was a regular in the Friday mens golf outing. The guys always enjoyed his many stories and friendly disposition.
They bought a place a little south of our neighborhood but both he and Carol remained connected to the neighborhood. Even as his health made it difficult to play golf he would often join the guys for the after golf dinner.
He became by lunch buddy. He and former friend and golf professional Allan Mitchel would search out the local bars. We each tried to find one that was more "unique". Needless to say we had lots of fun together.
One day on a lunch outing he wanted me to stop and a Dollar Store. He bought a case of cheap beer. He explained that he had a tradition in his new place to offer beer to the neighbors in his driveway. He said, I need some more "Driveway Beer". If I had nothing going in the late afternoon, I would stop by his place and join his friends for a "Driveway Beer".
He will be missed by his many friends, here in Florida and all around southern Wisconsin.
Our condolences to his family.
