Owin H. Chance's Obituary
Owin H. Chance, 87, of Hernando, went to be with the Lord Monday, May 4, 2020. Mr. Chance was born August 26, 1932 in Millen, GA to Harold Owin Chance and Julia Mae (Brinson) Chance. He retired as a Master Chief Warrant Officer with the U.S. Navy, serving our country in both the Korean War and the Vietnam War. He owned and operated the Western Auto in Wildwood for many years. Owin was a member of the First Baptist Church of Wildwood where he served as a Deacon. He was also a member of the American Legion, VFW and Wildwood Kiwanis Club. Owin was an avid Buc’s Fan and had enjoyed his time as an auxiliary officer with the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. Owin loved his books and was an avid reader and writer, he even wrote some memoirs. Survivors include his loving wife of 49 years, Dora; sons, Mike Chance of Lake City and Ronald Alvarez (Tawanna) of Sylvester, GA; daughter, Gloria Penley of Berlin, GA; daughter-in-law, Elly Chance of Jacksonville; sisters, Alberta Fowler (Gene) and Roberta McCaffery; 13 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Owin was preceded in death by his parents; sons, Ronnie Chance and Donald Chance and a sister, Juanita Taylor. Due to Covid-19 restrictions a limited funeral service for the family will be held 1:00PM, Friday, May 8, 2020 in the First Baptist Church of Wildwood. Friends and family may view the service at 1:00PM, Friday, by going to www.fbcwildwood.org. Interment will be private in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Owin's honor to the First Baptist Church of Wildwood, Building Fund, 402 Oxford St, Wildwood, FL 34785.
