Norton K Simmons' Obituary
Norton K. Simmons, 97, of Tavares, formerly of Wildwood, passed away Sunday, November 26, 2017. Mr. Simmons was born September 22, 1920 in Northwood, Iowa TO John and Mabel (Krogh) Simmons. He graduated from Northwood High School in 1937. He was a U.S. Navy, WWII Veteran serving in the pacific theatre with the Naval Construction Battalions. Norton worked 46 years in road construction in Indiana and Michigan. After retirement in 1985, he enrolled in Southwestern Michigan Community College and was awarded an associates degree in general studies in 1989 and was inducted into the National Honors Society for two-year colleges. Norton was a member of St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church where he sang in the choir for many years. Survivors include his sisters, Miriam Gowdy of Belmond, IA and Ruth Schroeder of DeWitt, IA; stepson, David Ignowski of Marco Island. Norton was preceded in death by his parents and brother, John. A prayer service will be held 11:00am, Tuesday, November 28, 2017 in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel with interment following in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
