Melvin Markus Pope Jr's Obituary
Melvin Markus Pope, Jr, 72, of Oxford passed away Monday, February 1, 2016. Mr. Pope was born January 25, 1944 in Siler City, NC to Melvin M, Sr and Ruth Pauline (Garner) Pope. He moved to this area in 1984 from Haines City and was the retired owner of Pope Trucking. He was a member of the Wildwood Church of Christ and loved playing with his grandchildren. Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Martha; children, Cherri Gould of Wildwood, Glen Pope of Summerfield, Patricia Dehart of Tallahassee and Gregory Keith Pope of Wildwood; siblings, Julie Whipple, Harold Pope and Lila Ruth Russell; 15 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren. Visitation for Melvin will be held 6:00 – 8:00pm, Thursday, February 4, 2016 in the funeral home. Funeral services will be 10:00am, Friday, February 5, 2016 in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel with interment following in Pine Level Cemetery, Oxford.
