Marjorie L. Groomer's Obituary
Marjorie L. Groomer age 99 passed away Thursday, September 3, 2015 at the Lane Purcell Hospice House in Sumterville, Florida. Marjorie was born in Spencer, Indiana on April 23, 1916 to Harley and Stevie Carpenter. She moved to the Wildwood area in 1955 from Ellington, Florida. Before moving to Florida she and her husband owned and operated a grocery store in her hometown of Spencer, Indiana for many years, and she assisted an area physician as a “Midwife” to her community. They later went on to build and develop the Orange Home Mobile Home Park near Wildwood, but her primary career was with the Woolworth Company where she worked as a clerk and then assistant store manager before retiring with over 20 years of service. Marjorie will be remembered by those closest to her for her strong work ethic and for being a fountain of wisdom, and the one you could always turn to when you needed good sound advice. She was a lover of people and over the years she helped dozens and dozens who hit rough patches in their lives. She may have invented the “Pay it Forward” mindset as she also discreetly sent money to many in need. She was happiest when she spent time with her family, and cooking large feasts at holiday times and family get-togethers. She had strong talents when it came to sewing, knitting and crochet. Marjorie was a master gardener growing vegetables and beautiful flowers year after year, her thumb was so green some joked that “she could get a stick to grow.” In later years she slowed a little but enjoyed keeping her mind sharp by regularly completing crossword puzzles. Marjorie was predeceased by her husband of more than 40 years Earl Groomer and daughter Beverly Jacobs. She leaves behind her loving daughter Shirley King of Wildwood; Grandchildren – Felecia (Joe) Exposito, Dale (Carol) Graham, Howard Graham, Tina (Tom) Suggs, and Marjorie (Calvin) Graham; 7 Great-Grandchildren and 4 Great-Great-Grandchildren with another expected to arrive soon.
The family will gather with friends on Tuesday, September 8, 2015 from 6-8 PM at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating Marjorie’s life will take place the following day (Wednesday, September 9, 2015 at 10:00 AM at the Funeral Home with Pastor Brenda Ammons serving as Officiant.
All arrangements are under the careful direction of Banks/Page-Theus Funerals and Cremations, Wildwood, Florida.
