Margaret M. McLoughlin's Obituary
Margaret Mary McLoughlin (nee Burns), 99, of Moneygold, Co. Sligo IRE, peacefully passed away, rosary in hand, on December 21, 2023, at home in Chicago, IL.
Formerly of Vero Beach, FL, Margaret spent her final years amongst her family in Chicago. She was born in New York to Michael and Mary Burns (nee Ryan) on February 14, 1924. Margaret grew up on the family farm surrounded by animals that she loved, and played camogie in the school yard at the Ursuline
Convent where she was a student. When she returned to America in 1947, she began her second life in New York, dancing at The Lorelei and working at Equitable Life Insurance. Here, she would meet her best friends and husband, Eugene McLoughlin. After their marriage, Eugene’s being in the U.S. Army had
them stationed all over the world. Margaret followed him to California, North Carolina (where Margaret worked for Avon), France, and Germany, where they would welcome their only child, Neal McLoughlin. After Eugene retired from the Army, the family moved to upstate New York, where Margaret took a job
at JC Penney that she retired from after 35 years at age 85. Margaret and Eugene eventually moved to Vero Beach, Florida in the mid-90s where they lived right on
the water. Margaret was known to always stay busy, continuing at JC Penney after a transfer, taking cruises with her best friend, Margie Manzari, feeding the birds, chatting with family in Ireland, and socializing with the Fairlane Harbor community where she lived. In remembrance, it is hoped that Margaret can be recalled by her wit, independence, and ability to always stay positive.
She is preceded in death by brothers John, Roger, and Michael James Burns and is survived by a brother Patrick (Paddy) Burns (Sligo, IRE), sister Agnes Forrest (Waterford, IRE), son Neal, Daughter-in-law Inna, grandchildren Daniel, Rachel, Claire, and Kathryn, and nineteen nieces and nephews across the world.
Mass of Resurrection will be held on Thursday, January 11, 2024 at 11:30AM at St. Paul Catholic Church in Leesburg, Florida with Visitation being held prior to the Funeral Mass from 9:00AM till 11:0AM at Page-Theus Funeral Home Chapel, Leesburg, Florida. Graveside Service will follow the Funeral Mass at Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell, Florida where Margaret will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Eugene Thomas McLoughlin.
