Luther E. Fannin's Obituary
Luther E. Fannin, age 94, of Avon Park, FL, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 5, 2025. Born on Saturday, April 11, 1931, in Louisa, KY, he was the son of John and Minnie (Fields) Fannin.
Luther dedicated 30 years of service as a communications supervisor at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base before retiring. In 2001, he relocated from Xenia, OH to Avon Park, FL, where he enjoyed his retirement. A lifelong sports enthusiast, Luther especially loved baseball and even tried out for the Cincinnati Reds.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 66 years, Katherine Fannin. Their love story began in high school in Louisa, KY. Luther was also preceded in death by his parents, five brothers, and one sister.
He is survived by his son, Stephen (Rosemary) Fannin in Warren, PA; daughters Jeri Schopp in Grand Island, NY, Cathy (Ronald) Watts in Sebring, FL, and Leslie (Dave) Smith in Dayton, OH; as well as 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren.
A viewing and family gathering will be held Saturday, October 18, 2025, from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM, followed by a Celebration of Life Funeral Service at 3:00 PM at Lakeview Memorial Gardens Chapel of Peace, 854 Memorial Dr, Avon Park, FL 33825.
