Lloyde "Sunny" Lumpkin Butler's Obituary
Lloyde Lumpkin Ballou Butler, affectionately known as “Sunny” by her family and friends, passed away May 15, 2016 in The Villages, Florida, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. She was born on October 25, 1935 in Richmond, VA, the daughter of Dr. Lloyd Uber Lumpkin and Mrs. Frances May Hall Lumpkin. Sunny was raised in Fort Lauderdale, FL and was a graduate of Stratford Hall School and Randolph-Macon Womens College. She raised her family in Richmond and built a very successful career in real estate, becoming a Broker and Vice President at Rennie & Wallace for many years until she eventually opened her own company, Premiere Properties. Afterwards, she enjoyed her early retirement years remodeling and decorating homes in Irvington and White Stone, Va.
A lifelong lover of the arts, Sunny was a puppeteer, accomplished dancer and stage performer. Her most recent achievements were with her beloved dance troupes, Questar and Music in Motion, in which she performed for over 10 years in numerous tap-dancing, singing and acting roles.
Sunny was married to the late R. Stuart Butler, Jr. for 30 years until his passing in 2009. She is survived by her partner and best friend, Robert L. Christy of The Villages, FL; her children, CMC Louis L. Kitchin, USCG (Retired) of Fort Lauderdale, FL and his wife, Tina C. Kitchin; Frances Cary Ballou of Scottsdale, AZ, and Elizabeth Ballou Weitzman of Glenview, IL; four grandchildren, Patrick C. Kitchin, Andrew L. Kitchin, Lucas A. Weitzman, and Evan L. Weitzman; and one great-grandchild, Connor Kitchin.
