Leonard Arthur Smith's Obituary
Leonard A. Smith passed away at home at the age of 91 with his family by his side on August 1, 2023, in Avon Park, Florida. Len was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 27, 1931, to Margaret Karf and Joseph Edgar Smith.
Len grew up in Chicago, attended Senn High School, and entered the Navy serving 4 years on the USS Buck during the Korean War. When he returned home, he married Mary Schramm and raised two daughters, Karen and Linda, in Streamwood IL. Len attended night school to complete his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering while working for Littlefuse where he received a Patent on a fuse.
Len was an avid golfer all his life, moving to live on a golf course in Streamwood before moving to Highlands Ridge, a golfing community in Avon Park, Florida. One of his proudest achievements was making a hole-in-one four times on four different golf courses, including the 6th hole on the North Course at Highlands Ridge.
Len leaves behind his daughters: Karen (Tim) LuCarelli and Linda (Jack) Meyer, 5 grandchildren: Kelsey Meyer, Jenna Nagle, Alexis Meyer, Tyler LuCarelli, and Caroline Meyer.
He. is preceded in death by his wife Mary, his brothers Lawrence and William, and his parents Margaret and Joseph.
Cremation has taken place and the family will schedule a celebration of life memorial service at a later date.
