Johnnie T. Powell's Obituary
Johnnie T. Powell, 92, of Lake Panasoffkee passed away Monday, January 15, 2018. Rev. Powell was born October 29, 1925 in Coffee Springs, AL. He grew up in Winter Garden, FL and has lived in this area since 1962. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during WWII and witnessed the surrender of Japan from the deck of his ship in the fleet guarding President Roosevelt. Returning home, he married his sweetheart in 1947, and worked several years for the Air Force as an airplane mechanic. He attended Southeastern Bible College in Lakeland, and in 1955, he became an ordained minister. He and his wife established a new church at K-ville, near Lakeland. Over the years, they pastored several churches, one in Alabama and five in Florida including Inverness, Oxford and Crystal River. He retired from active ministry in 1996. He was a member of one of his former pastorates, Oxford Assembly of God Church. Some of his other talents included construction, finished carpentry and woodworking. He was preceded in death by his loving wife Mia Catherine and granddaughter Kellie Marie. Survivors include four children, Sandra (Rick) Staton, Johnnie (Debbie) Powell, Lenard (Betty Sue) Powell and Nanette (Mike) Snider; seven grandchildren, Julie (JW) Staton, Beckie Weaver, Gregg (Leanna) Powell, Katie (Jeremiah) Gordon, Jami (Mike) Barnes, Josh (Janey)Powell and Chris Snider along with ten great-grandchildren. Visitation for Rev. Powell will be held from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m., Sunday, January 21,2018, in the Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00am, Monday, January 22, 2018, in the Oxford Assembly of God Church with interment following the service in Pine Level Cemetery.
