John Arthur Steward Jr's Obituary
John A. Steward, Jr, 79, of The Villages passed away Sunday, May 26, 2019. Mr. Steward was born May 6, 1940 in Baltimore, MD to John Arthur, Sr. and Ann Gist (Sykes) Steward. John served 30 yrs in the Marine Corps, enlisting in 1958 as a Private and retired in 1988 as a Major. John served 2 tours in Vietnam and 2 tours in Okinawa Japan. John’s Marine career alternated between the Military Police, Criminal Investigation Division and Naval Investigative Service. John moved to The Villages in 2006 from Dunnellon, Fl. He is a member of the Church of the Nazarene in Leesburg, VFW in Leesburg, Marine Corps League in Leesburg and the Gideons International in Leesburg. He was very active in church and loved being with his family, traveling, camping and golfing. Survivors include his loving wife, Joan; children, Carol Ann (Dale) Holder of Newport, NC, Randolph Eugene (Jeanna) Brightwell of Nashville, TN, Margaret Marie (Robert) Sprott of Hahira, GA, Deborah Ann (Mike) Smith of Lawrenceburg, TN, John Arthur (Amy) Steward, III of Indian Trail, NC, Robert James Steward of Bushnell, FL; stepchildren, Carla (Picton) Warlow and Carl H. Owens, Jr; 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. John was preceded in death by his first wife of 36 years, Mary Charlotte Steward, brother, James Robert Steward and sister, Maryann Marino. Services with military honors will be held 10am, Friday, July 12, 2019, in Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell followed by a service at 12:00 noon in the New Covenant United Methodist Church, The Villages. John's family is also having a service at 1:00 pm, June 15, 2019 at The First Church of The Nazarene, 111 N Washington St; Hendersonville, North Carolina 28739.
