John Rooney's Obituary
John J. Rooney, 82, of Sumterville, FL passed away Friday, March 17th 2017 in Orlando. John was born in Philadelphia, PA to Francis and Catherine Rooney and was one of 6 children. He served in the Naval Reserve and maintained a passion for construction and the trades throughout his life. He excelled as a steam fitter working in oil refineries and nuclear power plants in Pennsylvania. He planned and built many construction developments in Florida including Miami Lakes in Miami, Sweetwater Country Club in Longwood, and Huckleberry in Waterford Lake, FL. He is predeceased by his loving wife, Dorothy and is survived by his sons John Stephen and Brian, his step-daughter Lesia, his sisters Cassie and Patricia, his brother Joey and several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. John will always be remembered for his witty and humorous jokes, his entrepreneurial spirit, and his commitment to excellence with every project he took on, big or small. He suffered a great loss when Dorothy passed before him on July 21, 2012, and he missed her more with each passing day. Yet he woke up every morning with the determination and strength to continue living life to its’ fullest knowing that one day they would be together again. Now that time has come, and may he and Red finally be at peace, free from earthly trials, and joined together in love for all eternity.
