I first met Chaplain Mann at Erding AB Germany and then we were stationed together at Hurlburt Field Florida. Then, he was assigned to Randolph AFB Texas and I was at Officers Training School and we'd visit. He was an exceptional individual, always happy and smiling. One of the very best if not the best Chaplain in the Air Force, well respected and loved by many.

I loved being around Johnny, especially when on an adventure paddling down the river. His eyes would sparkle with anticipation of what was ahead just like a child opening Christmas presents. He was always fun to be with and never complained about life and all of our trials and tribulations. He was a humble man with much to boast about, but never did, and was generous to others. Johnny was a great inspiration and lived his faith leading by example.
