James Preston Seckinger's Obituary
James Preston Seckinger, 97, Wildwood, FL, went to be with the Lord January 6, 2016 in Palm Coast, FL. Preston was born 23 Oct 1918 in Savannah, GA, to his parents, Ruby and Ida Seckinger. Preston moved with his family to Wildwood in the 1920s. Mr. Seckinger graduated from Wildwood High School in 1939. He was employed by the A & P grocery stores, Peebles Furniture Store, and later became the Postmaster of the Wildwood Post Office. He served in the Army during World War II in the European theater. Mr. Seckinger was a member of the American Legion and the National Postmasters Association.
Mr. Seckinger is survived by his loving daughter, Jimmie Ann, and son-in-law Charles Mahan of Palm Coast, FL; two grandchildren, Kristin and her husband, Maj. Matt Ives of Columbus, GA and Kevin Mahan of Wildwood; three great-grandchildren, Lyla Mahan, Michael and Daniela Ives; and many loving nieces and nephews. Preston was predeceased by his loving wife of 75 years, Lora Barlow Seckinger in April 2015. Mr. Seckinger also had an older brother, Earl, an older sister, Mary, and a younger sister, Bernice who all also predeceased him.
Mr Seckinger enjoyed spending time with his family and friends and hiking in the mountains of north GA where they owned a home with his sister-in-law, Kitty and her husband, Frank Sutton. He and Lora also enjoyed travelling to some distant locations to visit their daughter and son-in-law while he was stationed overseas during his time in the military.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 1:30 PM, Thursday, Jan. 14, 2016 at the Wildwood United Methodist Church Sanctuary. Donations in lieu of flowers may be made to the Wildwood United Methodist Church, 300 Mason Ave, Wildwood, FL or to Florida Hospital Hospice Care, Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House, 770 W.
