James J Scanlan Jr.'s Obituary
James J. Scanlan, Jr, 87, of Sebring passed away Wednesday, February 10, 2016. Mr. Scanlan was born July 29, 1928 in Chicago, IL to James and Kathryn Elfreda (Grohe) Scanlan. He was a U.S. Marine Veteran and had retired from the art department at Techtron in Chicago, IL. After retiring, he moved to San Diego, California, before settling in Sebring in 1991. He loved and played many sports throughout his life. Tennis became his passion, along with tai chi, yoga and water aerobics. Survivors include his loving wife, Bu Nam Tobler of Sebring; children, Timothy Scanlan, Sandra Forst and Janice Scanlan, all of Bakersfield, California; step-daughter, Helen Shoemaker and her husband, Paul Shoemaker of Sebring; sisters, Betty Wito of Arlington Heights, Illinois and Sharon Giorgi of Elk Grove, Illinois; innumerable friends and neighbors at the Bluffs. He was predeceased by brothers, Jack Scanlan, Bill Scanlan and sister, Diane Gray. He had 6 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and 11 nieces and nephews.
