James Ellis Gurney's Obituary
James Ellis Gurney, 81, Avon Park, FL, passed away on July 5, 2013 under the loving care of family and staff of Somers Hospice House in Sebring, FL. Mr. Gurney was born on May 18, 1932 in New Bedford, Massachusetts to his parents Heman and Mary Gurney. He was a retired Fire Department Lieutenant from the City of Providence, R.I. with over 32 years of service. Mr. Gurney was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the U.S. Army and had moved 22 years ago from Clearwater, FL to Avon Park. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars post in Sebring and a member of the Highlands Golf Course in Avon Park. He is survived by his loving wife of 27 years: Loretta Gurney of Avon Park, FL; two daughters: Maryland Moy and Robin Gurney both of Rhode Island; two step-sons: Ray Glasco of St. Petersburg, FL and Ed Glasco of Virginia; a step-daughter: Brenda Calvin of Clearwater, FL; two grandchildren: Alexander Moy and Lily Moy. He was preceded in death by a step-son Dennis Glasco.
