Irene C. Gates' Obituary
Irene Cockfield Gates, 90, of Oxford, FL., passed away Friday, March 25, 2011 at The Villages Hospital, she was born July 23, 1920 in Oxford. Mrs. Gates was preceded in death by her husband, Louis Dewitt Gates, and is survived by her two daughters, Sharon Gates Marston of Luray, VA and Teri Gates Dorrough of Cabot AR; four grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She is also survived by her two sisters Mildred C. Shaw and Betty C. Simon; 2 nephews, Buddy Shaw and Andy Shaw; niece, Vonnie Nichols; 3 great nieces and three great nephews. Born and raised in Oxford, Mrs. Gates returned to her home place to retire with her husband. She was a member of Wildwood United Methodist Church. As she would say, “she had a wonderful life” returning to their home and living side by side with her sisters and their husbands. Visitation services for Mrs. Gates will be held on Monday, March 28, 2011 from 6pm to 8 pm in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, March 29, 2011 at 11:00 A. M at Wildwood United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery, Ocala, FL. Should friends desire memorial contributions in Irene’s name may be made to the Wildwood United Methodist Church or to the American Legion Post 18 Wildwood, FL.
