Harvey "Gregg" Mathews' Obituary
Harvey “Gregg” Mathews, 75, of Wildwood passed away Thursday, April 13, 2017. Mr. Mathews was born June 26, 1941 in Palatka to Monroe and Ozie (Guilford) Mathews. He was a Vietnam Veteran serving in the U.S. Air Force from 1960 – 1968. Gregg had worked for the Florida Highway Patrol then for the Sumter County Sheriff’s Department retiring in 1993 as the Chief Deputy. He moved here in 1972 from St. Petersburg and was a member of Village of Faith Baptist Church, Wildwood. Gregg was a past member of the Wildwood Rotary Club. He loved to fish and worked as a fishing guide for many years, play poker, golf and traveling with his wife. Survivors include his loving wife, Jaye; 5 daughters, Ann Rogers (Doug), Theresa Patrick and Diane Bradley all of Pensacola, Michelle Janke of Dalton, GA and Amanda Laios (Matthew) of Fruitland Park; sister, Jean Stallings (Wayman) of Palatka; 13 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 6:00-8:00pm, Monday, April 17, 2017 in the Banks/Page-Theus Chapel. Funeral services will be 11:00am, Tuesday, April 18, 2017 in The Village of Faith Baptist Church with interment in Florida National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in his memory to Caring Hands Ministry % First Baptist Church of Wildwood, 402 Oxford St, Wildwood, FL 34785.
