Harold Dean Heberlig's Obituary
H. Dean Heberlig, 92, died peacefully Saturday, November 29, 2014. He was born in Highspire, PA February 13, 1922, the youngest son of the late Charles and Daisy Heberlig. After graduating from high school, he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Corps and served as a top gunner and navigator during the Apennines, Po Valley and Rhineland campaigns of World War II. After his honorable discharge from the service, Dean worked as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer at the Griffis Air Force Base in Rome, NY until his retirement in 1971.
Dean was preceded in death by his high-school sweetheart and wife of 70 years, Betty J. (Chapman) Heberlig, and his daughter-in-law, Sharon C. Heberlig. He is survived by a son, H. Dean Heberlig Jr. and his wife Ann, and a daughter, Bonnie C. Allen and her husband Michael. In addition, he was the proud grandfather of Brian Heberlig, Christopher Heberlig, Laura Lautz, Tracy Zhiss, Julie Coward Grunewald and ten great-grandchildren.
After retirement, Dean and his wife moved to Port Ontario, NY where he was an avid outdoorsman, golfer, and fisherman. During the winter months, he and Betty wintered in Zephyrhills, FL until moving full time to The Villages in 2010.
A private family memorial with Military Honors will be celebrated for Dean and Betty at the Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home in Wildwood, FL, February 15, 2015. Interment will be at The National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL.
