George D. Thompson's Obituary
George D. Thompson, 89, of Sebring, FL passed away Wednesday, October 23, 2024. He was born Monday, January 14, 1935, in Columbus, OH to Walter H. and Agnes Lucille (Wine) Thompson.
George had a master’s degree in education and retired as a teacher & coach from Groveport Madison Local School District in 1992. George was a lifetime member of Groveport-Lockbourne Lodge #801 F&A.M. He also attended the Groveport Zion Lutheran Church.
In 1997, George and his wife Kathryn moved to Florida to enjoy their retirement years, where he became a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Sebring. George's passion for sports was evident throughout his life - from his career as a coach to the recreational activities such as Golfing and working at River Greens Golf Course as he continued to enjoy engaging during his retirement.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Kathryn R. (Taylor) Thompson; parents; brother, Charles Thompson.
He was survived by a daughter, Sharon K. (Dale) Sharp; sons: Douglas G. (Karen) Thompson and Dennis W. (Mindy) Thompson; brothers: Lloyd Thompson, Marvin Thompson, Ray (Karen) Thompson and Glenn (Sharon) Thompson; Sister, Mary Virgin; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
There will be a Celebration of Life Memorial service 1:30 pm Friday, Nov.22, 2024, in the Chapel of Peace at Lakeview Memorial Gardens 854 S Memorial Dr, Avon Park, FL 33825. Rev. Cecil Hess will be officiating.
