George T. Bates' Obituary
George T. Bates, 86, of Oxford passed away Sunday, January 29, 2012. Mr. Bates was born August 7, 1925 in Greenville, S.C. and moved to The Villages in 2004 from Vero Beach. He retired from the U.S. Navy, serving in both WWII and Korea, and then worked in several other fields, one of which was a Lay Minister for The Church of God. He enjoyed all music and loved to play his guitar. Survivors include his loving wife of 60 years, Evelyn; son, Craig of Vero Beach; daughter, Mitzi (Lee) Terry of Oxford; brother, Kenneth; sisters, Lonella McCracken and Barbara Bates; 6 grandchildren and 1 great-granddaughter. A graveside funeral service will be held 1:00pm, Friday, February 3, 2012, in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell.
