Dang! Mr. and Mrs. Garner were very good friends of my grandmother (Norma Beck). He started a branch of Sea Explorer Scouts in 1987 and I was a 7th grade member. He taught us how to clean that boat and get it water ready. We learned to tie various knots. We practiced sailing in flying juniors and even participated in a Jackson Park Yacht Club race! I am currently working in a school that sits on the Chicago River and I was just thinking about the time we brought the boat (named Sisyphus) from the yard to the club and we took the river. I saw parts of the city I may have never seen. I also was introduced to a sport/lifestyle. Thanks so much, Mr. Garner. You are a treasure! Thanks so much! I aim to reach children in the same way, by introducing them to aspects of life that they may have never considered. Sailing is a scholarship-able (lack of a better word) sport too! Job well done, Captain!
