Frances Palomeque's Obituary
Frances Carstairs Palomeque, 90, of Wildwood, FL passed away November 10, 2010. She moved to Wildwood from Inglis, FL in 1976. However prior to coming to FL she was half-owner and publisher of weekly newspapers in Port Byron, Candor and Sodus, NY. She was listed for two years in Who’s Who of American Women in the late 1960’s.She was a member of Wildwood United Methodist Church, past member and chair of the board of trustees. Charter member and past president of Pilot Club of Sumter County. Served as secretary and president of the Wildwood Improvement Committee. She also worked as office manager for Crystal River newspaper. Editor of Sumter County Times and later became Sumter County Bureau Chief for Leesburg Commercial. She also served 10 yrs on the Lake – Sumter Community College Advisory Board. In Nov. 1982 offered position as executive of Sumter County Development County and was successful in assisting several businesses to locate in Sumter Co. including Russell Stover Candies, Wildwood Ceramic Factory (now Traditions), and Metal Industries among others.Elected Wildwood City Commissioner in 1987, resigned in May 1991 when appointed County Commissioner by Gov. Lawton Chiles to complete expired term of Bill Wing. Later worked as administrative assistant of Development Council, secretary with Sumter County Emergency Management and Marlene Staley’s real estate firm, Com-Ind Properties, Inc. She was survived by husband, Osvaldo; daughter, Roberta Fox; son, Daniel Fox; two grandchildren, Christy and Justin Fox; several nieces and nephews; step-daughter, Sandra Wilson; and step-sons: Daniel Palomeque, Eduardo and Gabriel Palomeque
