Ernest E. "Ernie" Mattson's Obituary
Ernest E. “Ernie” Mattson, 69, of Brookston, MN and Wildwood, FL, passed away Tuesday, March 1, 2016. Ernie was born July 31, 1946 in Cloquet, MN to Toivo and Lempi (Jaskari) Mattson. He had served in the Minnesota & Michigan Army National Guard and was called to action during the 1960’s Detroit riots. He was a retired sheet metal worker. Ernie belonged to the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Brookston and Rock of Ages in Wildwood. He has been a winter resident of Wildwood since 2008. Ernie was a jack of all trades, building 3 homes and remodeled others, and he enjoyed hunting, reading, gardening and being a steward of the land. He loved all children but especially his grandchildren, taking them berry picking and 4wheeling, and teasing them. He was known to laugh the loudest and sometimes yell the loudest. Survivors include his loving wife of 48 years, Judi; children, Pastor Tricia Mattson of Bagley, MN and Erik Mattson (Tammie) of Duluth, MN; mother, Lempi Mattson; siblings, Martin Mattson (Gloria Chambers), Debby Mattson (Clyde Ritchie) and Richard Mattson (Jean); 5 grandchildren, Alexandra, Brenden, Grace, Quinn and Kaeden, and his faithful dog, Buddy. Friends and family will give thanks to the Lord for his life on Saturday, March 5, 2016 in Rock of Ages Lutheran Church, Wildwood with a visitation at 10 a.m. followed by the funeral at 11:00am. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Rock of Ages Building Fund or Immanuel Memorial Fund.
