Edra Nell Courtney's Obituary
Edra Nell (Parker) Courtney, 85, of Wildwood, passed away February 15, 2024. Edra Nell was born May 2, 1938, in Sand Mountain, Alabama to Bascom and Ola Parker. At the age of 12 Edra unfortunately lost her mom, but her father later re-married Myrtice, who was a wonderful stepmom to Edra. Edra moved to Sumter County, Florida over 50 years ago. Edra was a proud member of the Church of Christ in Wildwood for the last 50 plus years.
Edra leaves behind a large family that will miss her terribly: 6 children, George (Agnes), Claressa, Roger, Bob (Chris), Sandra and Cheryl (Tyler), 19 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren. Edra was proud of her large family, so much so she had mini-Christmas stockings with each person’s name that she hung up every year around her house and each year with excitement she would add more as the family had grown that year.
Edra was an amazing cook, baker and had an undeniable green thumb. Her recipes were so loved by her family that one year she made a cookbook of all her recipes for each of her children for Christmas (everyone still uses and treasures their cookbook). Baking was one of her favorite things to do: for each of her children and grandchildren’s birthdays she would make them their favorite cake; at Christmas she would bake each family a large variety of cookies which required her to make over 2,500 cookies each year (even shipping them to the families out of state and oversees). Her family was blessed to see her green thumb all around her home and yard, others were blessed to see it as she worked at Tedder’s Nursery for over 20 years. She loved baseball & was a Saint Louis Cardinals fanatic! Her other hobbies included puzzles, reading, and collecting cardinal décor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Thomas of 44 years, 1 grandchild (Steven) and 3 great-grandchildren.
There will be a Celebration of Life at the Wildwood Church of Christ at 10:00 am on Friday, March 8, 2024, and interment services at Florida National Cemetery (Bushnell).
The family ask in lieu of flowers memorial donations in Edra Nell Courtney’s name be made to the Wildwood Church of Christ (114 Cleveland Ave, Wildwood, FL 34785).
