Dorothy Marie Nelson's Obituary
Dorothy Marie Nelson of Inverness passed away peacefully at home on the morning of October 28, 2022 under the care of Hopes and Dreams and Vitas Hospice. Dorothy was 102. Four of her family members were present at her bedside.
She was born in Chicago, Illinois on December 19, 1919, where she grew up and later attended Northwestern University where she received her bachelor’s degree. On November 26, 1942, she married her loving husband, Robert (Bob) Nelson whom she shared 77 fabulous years. They celebrated their 75 anniversary at the Inverness Country Club. They traveled the world extensively and lived in England, Japan, Turkey, South Africa, Portugal, California, Washington, New York and Inverness, Florida.
Dorothy was an English and History teacher and later a special education teacher and taught students in Japan, Hawaii and later California.
She enjoyed playing bridge, cruises/traveling, entertaining at home and spending time eating out with friends and family as well as watching Jeopardy and playing spider solitaire.
Dorothy (Dottie), is survived by her two children, Marlies Hahn and Valerie (Michael) Lipstein, and her three grandchildren, Shane and Vanessa Lipstein and Trevor Nelson and great granddaughter, Zahra Rose Lipstein.
A private family ‘Celebration of Life’ will be held at a later date.
