Dorothy Elizabeth McElrath's Obituary
Dorothy Elizabeth McElrath, 93 of Wildwood, Florida, was welcomed to Heaven by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and her loving husband of 54 years, Louis Scott McElrath, on September 8, 2015, at the Cornerstone Hospice Center in The Villages, Florida.
Dorothy was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and friend to so many. The middle of three children, she was born in Tuscaloosa, Alabama on April 7, 1922, to Clarence and Blanch Tucker. Her siblings included brothers, John and Arthur Tucker.
She married the love of her life, Scott in 1938. Together they raised their children, Dorothy Mae (McElrath) Baker and Louis Scott McElrath Jr. in the quiet southern town of Wildwood, Florida.
Known for her generous heart and unyielding strength, Dorothy was not only invested in her family but in her community as well. She and Scott could often be found preparing food and collecting items for people in need. In addition to her charitable work, she was an award-winning employee of Sears for more than twenty years. Upon her retirement, she and Scott enjoyed their summer home in the mountains of North Carolina where they shared many years creating wonderful memories with friends and loved ones.
Dorothy not only had a passion for people, but for music as well with an extraordinary gift for playing multiple instruments by ear, including the piano, organ, harmonica and violin. It brought her great joy to share this gift with everyone she met, from entertaining family and friends to worshiping the Lord with her church family.
Dorothy is survived by a beautiful legacy of four generations, including her two children, Dorothy Baker (Carleton) and Scotty McElrath, and four grandchildren Tammi Treen (Robert), Traci Clanton (Tim), Sherry Roberson (Don) and Timothy Baker (Stephanie). Dorothy was also blessed with 11 great-grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren and niece Marge Dewey (Carl).
A memorial service honoring Dorothy will be held at the First Baptist Church of Wildwood on Saturday, September 12, 2015, with a viewing at 11:00 am and service at 1:00pm, followed by a graveside service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cornerstone Hospice Center in the Villages, Florida.
