Dorothy May Taylor's Obituary
Dorothy May Taylor, 84, of Gainesville, formerly of Wildwood, passed away on March 29, 2011. She was born in Marquette, Michigan on April 14, 1926. She loved reading, shopping, computer games, and playing cards with her family. Her parents, Senia Ikkala and Jalmar Ryoti, both immigrated from Finland and met in Michigan. During World War II, Mrs. Taylor was a secretary in Washington, D.C., assigned to the war department. Her work career included parenting five children, bookkeeping, and office management. She retired as a bookkeeper with the State of Florida. She enjoyed playing Bingo where she lived at The Atrium in Gainesville, and at her former home in Wildwood Estates, where she and her husband were shuffleboard organizers and champions. She moved to Wildwood from Orlando in 1992, and then to Gainesville in 2010. She lived her final years and days with great courage. She is survived by her loving children, Richard and Dennis, both of Gainesville; Daniel of Yellow Springs, Ohio; Darlene Maureen Sweatt of Gainesville; and Diane Marie King of Davie, Florida; her sister and brother-in-law, Gertrude and Bob Johnson, of Marquette, Michigan; and her nieces, nephews, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She is predeceased by her husband, Richard Charles Taylor Sr., and her sister and brother-in-law, Toini and Ward Johnson. Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm, Friday, April 1, 2011, in the Florida National Cemetery, Bushnell. Viewing and visitation will be Friday at noon at Banks/Page-Theus Funeral Home, Wildwood.
