Celebrating the Life of Dora “Gram” Chance
June 1, 1931 – June 26, 2026
Dora “Doralice” Chance, lovingly known as Gram, passed away peacefully on June 26, 2026, at the age of 95, surrounded by the love of her family.
Born on June 1, 1931, in Central Falls, Rhode Island, Dora was the daughter of Gilvan Vieira dos Santos and Maria Sophie (Almeida) Santos. She lived a remarkable life defined by love, resilience, compassion, and unwavering devotion to her family.
Dora was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Owin Chance; her longtime companion, Ronald Resare; her daughter, Gloria Penley; her stepsons, Ronald Chance and Donald Chance; and many other loved ones who welcomed her into Heaven.
She is survived by her son, Ronald Alvarez and his wife, Tawanna; her stepson, Michael Chance; and her daughter-in-law, Elly Chance.
She also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Michael Rodriguez and wife DeAna; Anthony Rodriguez and wife Christy; Melissa “Missy” Slanker and husband Bobby; Brandie Ward and husband Dale; Sara Galloway and husband Martin; Shaina Roper and husband Krystyan; Sharla Alvarez; Marlena Tillery and husband 5-8; John Eubanks and his wife Amber; Kerri Loveless; Samantha Joyce and husband Steven; Kimberly Gilhousen; and Melissa Chance.
Her greatest joy was her growing family, and she was blessed with 45 great-grandchildren, each of whom held a special place in her heart.
Gram had a creative spirit and found joy in painting, sewing, crocheting, cruising, and traveling. She loved discovering new places, creating beautiful things with her hands, and making lasting memories with family and friends.
She will always be remembered for making everyone feel at home. No one ever left Gram’s house hungry. She always had a meal cooking, homemade treats, or a favorite snack waiting for anyone who stopped by. Her kitchen was a place of love, laughter, and togetherness.
She had an unforgettable smile that could light up any room, and she never met a stranger. Known affectionately as the hippest Gram around, her signature purple hair reflected her fun-loving personality and vibrant spirit. She embraced life with style, laughter, and a heart full of love.
Above all else, Dora treasured her family. She taught by example through kindness, patience, generosity, and unconditional love. Her greatest legacy is the family she nurtured and the countless lives she touched with her warmth and grace.
In her final days, she was lovingly cared for at home, surrounded by family who ensured she was comfortable, cherished, and never alone. The compassion shown to her reflected the love she had given so freely throughout her life.
While our hearts are broken by her passing, we find comfort in knowing she is now at peace, free from pain, and reunited with those who have gone before her. Though she is no longer with us in body, her love, wisdom, beautiful smile, and unforgettable spirit will live on in our hearts forever.
A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered.
“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.”
