Donald R. Nichols Sr's Obituary
Donald R. Nichols, Sr, 83, of Oxford passed away Thursday, August 31, 2017. Mr. Nichols was born October 19, 1933 in Ocala, FL to Robert Henry and Cecilia Aline (Snowden) Nichols. He lived for many years in Vero Beach moving back to Oxford in 1995. While in Vero Beach he worked his way up the ladder and became a bank president and was very involved in the community and church. He was past president of both the Exchange Club and Chamber of Commerce, worked as a volunteer for the Ambulance service becoming an EMT and was highly regarded by his peers in the field. Donald was involved in the finance committees for churches he belonged to and was the chairman of Deacons in the Forest Park Baptist Church and the Chairman of Elders and Treasurer in the Emanuel Baptist Church. Survivors include his loving wife of 65 years, Marilene; children, Patti Tilley and her husband, Dr. Richard Tilley of Long Beach, Mississippi, Don Nichols, Jr. of Oxford and Ron Nichols of Fort Pierce; brother, Hurley Nichols and his wife, Bonnie Nichols of Oxford; grandchildren, Mandy, Kaitlyn, Amy and Riley; 10 great-grandchildren. Donald’s family will celebrate his life 2:00pm, Sunday, September 3, 2017 in the First Baptist Church of Oxford. A private interment will be held in Nichols Cemetery at a later date. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Oxford in his honor. On-line condolences may be shared by visiting www.bankspagetheus.com.
