Delilah Caruthers Gwaltney's Obituary
Delilah Caruthers Gwaltney, 85, of Wildwood, FL went home to meet Jesus on March 3, 2026.
Delilah, who was born on September 19, 1940 and raised in Wildwood, was the oldest child of Sammie and Mae (Zipperer) Caruthers. Delilah was known to be an exceptionally sweet lady who was very supportive of her friends and family. To know her was to love her.
She was an avid reader and an accomplished spinner of natural fibers. After her retirement as secretary from American General Insurance Company, formally Independent Life, Delilah spent many years visiting schools, youth fairs, and exhibits lecturing on natural dying of fibers while spinning the fur of the angora rabbit sitting in her lap.
Delilah was also the "Bluebird Lady of Central Florida," having acquired that title because of the countless eastern bluebird boxes she made and hung in various places around Central Florida. For years, she kept meticulous notes on the bluebirds that fledged from each nesting box.
Delilah is predeceased by her parents, brother, William Caruthers, sister and her husband, Mary and Jimmie Glisson, and nephew, James Glisson. Delilah is survived by husband, Wayne of Inverness, FL, sister, Becky Partridge, brother Tom (Benachoice) Caruthers, sister-in-law, Betty Caruthers, all of Wildwood; step-children, Doug (Kellie) Gwaltney of Peachtree Corners, GA, Karen Gwaltney, of Pasadena, CA, and Bethany Lowe of Tallahassee, FL; 6 grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews she dearly loved.
The family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff and residents at Vista Lake Assisted Living in Leesburg for the awesome care they took of Delilah. She dearly loved the ladies who cared for her there.
Delilah's graveside service will be held at Oak Grove Cemetery in Wildwood at 11:00 on Saturday, March 14, 2026.
