David Joseph Skorupski's Obituary
David Joseph Skorupski, 83, of Sebring, FL, passed away on November 28, 2025 at Vitas Hospice Care in Lake Wales, FL. David was born on May 26, 1942 in South Bend, IN to his parents Joseph and Dorothy Skorupski. Joseph Skorupski was killed in action in WWII in 1944. Several years later, Dorothy married Anthony Skorupski, who was a loving father to David for his entire life.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Dorothy and Anthony Skorupski, and his wife of 55 years, Constance Skorupski.
David, known as Dave by friends and family, was a graduate of Ball State Teachers College and taught middle school science for 2 years after he graduated. Spending his childhood in the Boy Scouts and having been an Eagle Scout, he then decided to work for the Boy Scouts of America and share his love of all things outdoors with future generations.
He started this career in 1965 in Grand Rapids, MI. His career then took him to the Calumet Council in Munster, IN around 1969. In 1982 he was promoted to Director of Field Service in Valley Forge, PA, then Scout Executive of the Nashua Valley Council in Lancaster, MA in 1992. In 1995 he moved on to be the Director of Finance for the Watchung Area Council in Mountainside, NJ and then finished out his 42 years of service to the BSA working with the Information Systems Division at the Home office in Irving, TX from 1998-2007. Dave was well-loved by his many coworkers, and was known for his outgoing personality, storytelling and sense of humor. He was hardworking but also knew how to relax and have fun and enjoy his time with friends and family.
Together with his wife, Connie, they raised their three children. He worked long hours, but every Sunday the family attended church together, and he frequently cooked early Sunday suppers that filled the home with aromatics.
Vacations were always centered around the outdoors, where he taught his kids to swim, fish, hike and pitch a tent for camping. Dave was an excellent swimmer, which was his favorite form of exercise well into his golden years. Dave swam competitively in distance races from adolescence through college.
Dave spent the first seven years of his retirement traveling around the country with Connie in their RV. They visited family and friends all over the US and made it all the way up to Canada and Alaska. He and Connie thoroughly enjoyed exploring many beautiful regions of North America. They would visit their kids and grandchildren for special occasions and holidays.
Eventually, they settled in Avon Park, FL at the Crystal Lake Club. There, they spent time with Dave’s father and sister. They made many friends and enjoyed holiday parties, swimming, golfing, and playing cards and dominoes. They also joined Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and worshipped there every weekend.
Dave is survived by his three children, Victoria Asher (Scott) of Timonium, MD; Valerie Cywinski of Exton, PA; Justin Skorupski (Dana) of Little Elm, TX; as well as eight grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and his sister, Janet (Bill) Leach of Crystal Lake, IL.
A Memorial Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 25, 2026 at 10am at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church in Avon Park, FL. Private interment will follow at Lakeview Memorial Gardens in Avon Park, FL.
The family has requested donations be made to VITAS Community Connection (Central Florida). https://interland3.donorperfect.net/weblink/weblink.aspx?name=E232399&id=1 in Dave’s loving memory.
