Col. David S. Penniman, U.S. Air Force, Retired, 79, of The Villages passed away Sunday, May 24, 2015. Mr. Penniman was born July 16, 1935 in Claremont, NH to Harold Smith and Pansy Pearl (Plummer) Penniman. He was a Pilot with th Read Obituary
I just noticed in the MOAA magazine that Dave had passed away. We were classmates in the hot summer of 1964 ; that class was Section 64 of Squadron Officers School (SOS) at Maxwell AFB, Alabama. I have often thought of Dave, even though we had not maintained contact, because he was one of the really good guys.

Dave was in the same A!E upgrade class in 1964 before we went to Vietnam.and we served together at Bien Hoa from Jan.to Dec. 1965He was a fine pilot and great comrade.Jm Hays L/C USAF Ret.
Dave and Nancy were special friends to me and Jean. We were across the street neighbors at Maxwell AFB in the 1980's. We have very fond memories of the time we spent with them--especially a 2001 Alaskan trip/ cruise.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Linda, Karen, and their families.

Barb and I were so proud to know Dave. His pride of being an air force veteran and serving his country. Wearing his uniform, which he still fit into, at a veterans recognition show. Dancing with his lovely Beverly and trying to keep up with him on the Sumter County Bike rides are some of the things we will always cherish about Dave.
He will be very much missed.

Dave and his late wife, Nancy, were our very dearest friends from many years in the Air Force and in retirement. Dave will be sorely missed by us. We pray for his family and are so thankful that they were all with him during his last days.

We were neighbors in Big Spring, Texas for 3 years in the 1970's while our fathers worked at Webb AFB and then you guys tranferred to Alabama. Our friendship was solidly planted Linda and through that I have had the honor and privilege to continue to be in contact with your entire family all these years. My favorite memory of your father will be the time that he came to visit me in Belgium. It was such a compliment to me that he made the time to reach out, take on the public transport system to meet up with me and then we had a fabulous dinner and visit before I returned him to his hotel. Naturally he then filled me in on all kinds of stories from our teenage years - told from a parent's perspective - that gave an entire new focus on both our lives. He is physically gone but he remains with us in spirit forever. Much love to you all.
On behalf of the Sumter Landing Bicycle Club we want to send our sincere condolences to Dave’s family. Dave rode with our club as soon as he moved in to The Villages. We enjoyed his company while riding and enjoyed his conversations as we took our break at the end of each ride at the Pavilion in Sumter Landing. His last ride was the trip to Croatia where he rode hill after hill after hill. Hard to believe he could do that difficult ride so very shortly before he fell ill.
He is and will be missed at our club rides. Hope he will be with us in spirit!

So very happy Archie and I spent time with you this winter. Thought I would have one
more visit with you, but I guess God wanted you more. Now you can be with Nancy.
You certainly lived a full life doing the things you most loved. It was such a great gift
that you had your entire family with you on a cruise. We love you and will miss you

So enjoyed knowing "Linda's Dad" as we called him! Loved having him at our home for all of the holidays including Father's Day. He truly was a devoted father, grandfather and friend. We will miss him.
