I just spoke to Darrell when he was in Ohio a few weeks before he passed. It came as such a shock that he's gone. One of the memories that sticks out in my mind happened when I was about 7 and Darrell was about 10. We were at the beach with my best friend Becky and her mother. Her mother was sitting on the beach while we swam. I couldn't swim at the time but I had a beach ball that I was using to float with. I ended up floating too far out and became panicked and lost the grip on my ball. I went under and then was able to go above the water but no one saw me struggling. I kept going under again and again and all of a sudden Darrell grabbed me and helped me back to shore. He saved my life that day and I've never forgotten it.
